DeLorean Rock!!

I went out last night to see Dave’s band DeLorean. Dave’s kick drum was sporting it’s lovely new head and the band had popped 3 new songs into the set.

It was a fab night; oodles of people up singing and dancing…and a superb rendition of “happy birthday” (thanks guys x)

. ..by the time we got home at 2am I had been awake for almost 24 hours so I hit the sack!

Snow Day! (part 1, no doubt!)

Luckily for us, the kids’ school decided not to open at 8.20am even though it had only just started snowing.  I made the executive decision to keep Jack at home from nursery (5 miles through snowy back roads did NOT appeal), so it’s officially a Snow Day!

I took the doggies for a walk at 9am…by the time we got back, their footprints were already disappearing into the snow (we were out for about 20 minues!)…

It looks like Dave is being sent home from work.  He’s meant to have a gig tonight, but the roads around here are becoming impassable, so unless it stops snowing now, I can’t see him being able to get there…

We are planning to head out into the snow after lunch.  Bets on how long the kids will last?……..

Meanwhile, Leo and Jamie were meant to be going to Daddy’s this weekend and the boys had football matches scheduled for tomorrow……….not gonna happen!

A Morning with Aunty Soph and Uncle Dave

Monkey eyes up a cookie!

Monkey eyes up a cookie!

After “cousins” had gone to school and nursery, Dave and I took Ciaran out for the morning.  We went to Starbucks for hot chocolate and a cookie, then to Uncle Dave’s drum shop, where Ciaran had a lot of fun looking at all of the drums, cymbals and percussion.

Ciaran put the metronome on on this electronic kit and was able to exactly match the beat – it was VERY impressive :o)

A Fantastic New Years Eve!

Where to start?  I am so tired and maybe a teensy bit hungover, but with a massive grin on my face.

Dave’s NYE gig was at a pub/restaurant in Southampton called the White Star Tavern, and I am not afraid to take this opportunity to give them a shameless plug – it is a fantastic place, truly.  Part of the reason I say this is because in general I am finding that customer service is sadly lacking in a lot of places these days.  But also because as a drummer’s wife, I have felt basically invisible to staff in the places where Dave gigs – that’s when crazy Gary wasn’t throwing insults at me.  The other exceptions to this are, of course, the lovely Nicolai at the Royal Oak, Southampton and the late, great Roy Whelan.

The customer service was second to none, especially considering that we were being put up in their rooms at their expense and they were (of course) paying the band.  I felt at every opportunity I was treated like a valued customer.

Anyway, on arrival, myself and Georgia (lead singer Henry’s girlfriend) were shown up to our apartment, which had 2 double and 1 single bedroom as well as a kitchen, lounge and 2 bathrooms.

Our lovely bed!

Georgia and me settled in, shared a bottle of wine that she and Henry had brought and got ready.  We (and the band) were served the most delicious and gigantic burgers and chips, washed down with a nice glass of Chardonnay.

Aaaaanyway!

Ready to rawk – Dragsters style!

The music and dancing started and we were dancing away when who should appear at the window but the lovely Jem Easom (who we haven’t seen since our wedding over 2 years ago) and Dr Tom!  They came and joined us for dancing, drinking and general Dragsters styleeeee merriment.  Dave tells me that at midnight, he got 4 kisses (including one from me (but this was *not* the one that involved tongues!!!)) and I got 3.

So the music must have wrapped up at around 1ish and because Dave wasn’t packing up until the morning, we were able to have some drinks.  Together!  Shock horror!  I don’t know whose bright idea it was, but the plan to find a kebab shop emerged.

Have you heard the one where 2 doctors, a drummer and a nuclear scientist walked into a kebab shop?  Probably best not…

Dave and I rolled into bed at around 3am and woke at about 8.30.  Dave packed up and I got ready.  Although I was hanging like a bat in a cave, I feel happier than I have in ages.  And this was the view from our apartment window…

Chim-chimeny, chim-chimeny, chim chim chereeeeeee

A Burger King at Winchester Services on the way home sorted me out, and gave me and Dave happy memories of stopping there for a fry up the morning after our wedding.

I arrived home to find that Gareth (who was babysitting) had also dealt with the washing up that I had meant to load into the dishwasher yesterday.  I am hugely grateful to him :oD

So all in all, we had a fantastic night.  The opportunity to stay over made a huge difference to us and has made me feel like I’ve had a real break from every day life, which I’m sure most parents will agree is very important once in a while.  And seeing old friends was brilliant, or as the kids would say AWESOME and EPIC!

“It’ll come out in the wash…”

Image

Here is a small collection of random items that I have recently washed in error (ie they were in someone’s pocket…

  • a trolley coin (me!)
  • a marble
  • a drum key (David?)
  • a small hippo
  • a neatly folded kettle chips packet (this one went through the drier as well…)
  • nerf gun bullets (sigh)
  • a stone
  • a tape measure
  • a pink rubber
  • a GoGo
  • a £5 note (now mine, even if it wasn’t before….)
  • and the piece de resistance – Leo’s iPod (not pictured)…which I (huge sigh) managed to save by tying it into a bag with dry rice – thank you, internet!!!

So…what’s the strangest thing you’ve ever washed….?

Sometimes I just see beauty…

A few weeks ago, it was absolutely freezing here in the UK.  It’s now so mild that I think the flora and fauna are confused.  I took this picture near the kids’ school…

The beauty of a winter's morning

That same morning, my car had such thick frost on it that it looked like a crown!  The kids couldn’t believe that it wasn’t snow…

Jack Frost was at work on my car!

I know my mother would curse me for this, but I am actually hoping for a nice thick blanket of snow…just for a couple of days, so that we can get the sledge out and maybe build a snowman.

SNOWMAN!

SNOWMAN!

I love being safe at home with the snow coming down thick and fast…one time that it did this, me and Dave walked the dogs up to the off licence in the village and bought a bottle of bubbly to celebrate the snow (winter 2010/2011).

...and this was *before* he started drinking...

…and this was *before* he started drinking…

That same winter, a couple of days after Archie started school, it was snowed shut.  The school asked parents to volunteer to come and shovel snow out of the staff car park.  Now, you must understand that at this point, parents had had over excited children at home over Christmas, and they had only managed either 1 or 2 days back before snow closed the school, so….

...our children *will* come to school tomorrow!!!!

Thank You Auntie Jay and Goodbye Christmas!

The Family :o)

The Family :o)

Shared with Daddy, I hasten to add!!!

Shared with Daddy, I hasten to add!!!

To ‘celebrate’ the end of Dave’s time off for Christmas, we took the kids to TGI Fridays.  Auntie Jay and Uncle Stephen had given me some money to spend on the kids in some way, so we decided to treat them and let them have (drum roll) 2 drinks each! LOL.

This is the first time we have ever seen all of the children clean their plate…we had a lovely meal and some lovely family time, plus a few rounds of “Boy vs Food”/”Girl vs Food”/”Mummy vs Food”/”Man vs Food” (you get the idea).

Boxing Day

It was time to split up the family today!  Dave and JackJack headed off to Hertfordshire to see Dave’s parents, whilst the rest of us went back to Nana and Grandpa’s for further eating and merriment. Poor JackJack was hysterical when we left (“I want Mummy, I want to go with Mummy” etc)…

When we arrived, we were met by a shocking sight; “someone” had stolen a chocolate bauble from the Christmas tree and nibbled it, leaving copious evidence…Leo used his detective kit from Santa to investigate…

Image

We were joined at N&G’s by Uncle Ben, Auntie Anne, Auntie Jay and Uncle Stephen.  We did a good deal of eating and drinking, as well as board games and a short musical session around the piano (thanks, Uncle S for playing!!).

Santa had brought Francecsa French skipping elastic, so I took the opportunity to teach her and the boys how to play…it was all the rage when I was at primary school and I can’t believe that I have never seen it at their school.  Jamie and me also played “Pass the Pigs” and he couldn’t believe that I used to play it when I was little.  Of course in those days, we only had stones and a stick to play with….Image

It was all too much for Uncle Ben (although he wasn’t to only one to catch 40 winks…)

Image

Dave got home about 45 minutes after us with JackJack asleep on his shoulder.  They have had a very busy day as well…

Christmas Eve

So, it’s Christmas Eve and I am home alone with little Jack, who is making the most of the “uvvers” not being here by playing Leo Star Wars on the Wii!  We are waiting for Daddy to come home from work; he’s hoping they’ll finish around 3pm today, although that does depend on customers.  Earlier, we (I) made a gingerbread Christmas tree and took it in so that Dave, Simon and Ian could have something tasty.  I still have a small amount of wrapping to do, but I feel like I’m trying to force myself into the Christmas spirit whilst missing the older kids terribly.

I made the mistake of watching Muppet Christmas Carol earlier and had a bit of a wobble when it got to the song “Bless Us All”.  I’ll probably be tearing my hair out by the end of the day tomorrow, but right now I can’t wait to see them again…
